A Few quick thoughts-

Pick yourself up..

Really nice Rebound for Nick Gonzales. OPS over 900 while slugging .522. All in all a nice week. The thing that does jump out is that K rate of 30%. Get it down, Nick. Get it down.

Enmanuel Terrero had a solid week getting himself back in the swing of things after a slow week. Terrrero has really put himself on the map this year. I have to think he’s in line for a promotion to A+ sooner rather than later.

Triolo. Out of the gates fast. Speed bump. But over the last two weeks, he’s got into rhythm. This is a guy to watch over the next few weeks. Can play OF, SS, SS and 2B. I would love to see him over Mathias or Owings at some point soon.

Pitch Perfect..

What a week for starters in the system.

Bubba Chandler’s line may not look incredible, but it’s solid if you look deeper. 30% K rate. The FIP is 3.84 and the BABIP(.400) shows some bad luck, but the stuff is there. Hang in there with him. Once it clicks he could move faster than we think.

Jared Jones went six strong and did it without striking out 25% of the hitters he faced. Jones is learning to be a pitcher, not just a kid with good stuff. He typically relies on his ability to miss bats, often having high pitch counts due to control issues. As he learns to get outs quicker and without needing to strike them out, he should be fun to watch. It’s not at all hyperbolic to say that Jones is close to being a top prospect. His stuff is electric. He has added to his repertoire and refined his stuff. His velo is excellent at 99 MPH and I wont be at all surprised when he hits 100. The slider is a plus plus type offering. I think what’s worked for him is a new delivery that has a better locked in mechanics. He’s in the zone more. His change up and curve-ball are coming along. He will be 21 years old for all of 2023. Yep, I’d say we can all get excited on Mr. Jones.

Quin Priester. I could have included Priester in with Terrero and Gonzales for a rebound week, but with how the pitchers threw this week I had to include him here. Giving up no runs over 6 while fanning 25%. Nice outing that all in all has become routine for Quinn putting him on pace to debut to debut this season, how late in the year has become the question I find myself pondering.

Kyle Nicolas. I’m not sure how the org will view Kyle. BP? 5th starter type? Either way he’s putting together a nice season and had a nice week.

Thomas Harrington. Kinda a mixed bag in his A+ debut? Short outing. ERA was high. I get all of that, but he’s in red due to everything else falling in line. Striking out a third of the hitters he faced and allowing few runners to get on. And walking nobody. All in all a solid debut despite the runs.

HanSolo. Anthony Solometo is putting together a year we should all be discussing more than we have. After putting together yet another good week, he is striking out batters at right around 30% clip. He’s not allowing a ton of guys to get on. WHIPP of 1.15. He’s added velo to that fast ball. If he keeps this up, he will be a big raiser on any Pirates prospects list.

Like I said, it was a big week for the hurlers in the system.

And another thing..

Tsung-Che Cheng. With 7 HR on the season it’s time we talk about this guy. If this power hangs around it won’t be long until we see him moving up lists. He has good control of the zone. Doesn’t K, take his walks, and can really move. Added power would have the 21 yr old on a lot of radars. Man, what a week he had. He is a guy that should be on his way to Altoona soon.

Last time we talked…

Last week I had said that the Bucs needed to get Henry Davis moving along and as if on que, they did just that. Davis will make his AAA debut Tuesday (and will likely have had two games under his belt when you read this). I deserve no credit for that, as it was pretty obvious he was ready to move up. And depending on his results I’m not sure how long he’ll be at Indy. I think the FO will want him to get more innings in RF before being comfortable calling him up to the bigs.

Speaking of someone getting that call, Endy has heated up. It was always a matter of when with his bat. A .353/.450/.471 slash line is a beautiful site. I don’t think it’s too too long before we see an Endy jersey in the Bucs dugout.
