There is simply no room for positives when one aspect of your team is this bad. The Pirates bullpen has completely imploded and no matter what goes right, who comes up, whom takes a step, the good feelings can only last about as long as the team can hold out before having to turn it over to the bullpen.

A sweep of the Reds quickly followed by a sweep from the Mets. Progress negated in a single predictable series. Thing is folks, as I’ve said countless times, the losing is one thing, losing as badly as the Pirates did in this series, that’s what makes you feel like nothing is improving.

Clichés are often not what people want to hear, but they exist largely because they tend to be based in fact. The fact is that Cruz is just settling in and it is resulting in improved performance, both in the field and at the plate.

The Pirates are a bad team, playing an extra tough portion of their schedule. That would be hard enough, but lets add in mismanagement and a total lack of awareness and you have a recipe for a whole bunch of gross.

This space has been a dark place for a few weeks now. Near constant losing will do that, near constant losing while being seemingly out of it by the third night after night will do that from all directions.

Another week of baseball begins, and another underwhelming if not overtly irritating week ends. The Pirates continue to make decisions that simply don’t make sense, and serve to really just frustrate fans.

Busy weekend. I typically try to write at least one piece over the weekend but this one I just couldn’t make it work. Then again, why should I care more than a team still employing Josh VanMeter and still digging around on waiver wires and AAA trade boards to find guys like Jose Godoy, oh, I mean “This Catcher”? I just refuse to learn a 59th name.

What a weird time to be writing one of these. I mean, it’s Monday, it’s 5:00 PM, but there is just so much uncertainty out there what with the trade deadline tomorrow. I mean I could turn this into a prediction piece, maybe it’ll wind up one of those where I have to add a 6th or 7th point because trades won’t quit rolling in.

The Pirates were an improving team, this season. They had youngsters come up here, inject energy, enthusiasm and skill into a team that started the season struggling to string two hits together.
