Well, I’m back in Pittsburgh, just in time to have no Pirates baseball for a week. That’s good though, it gives us time to reflect and digest what we’ve seen thus far and fully appreciate the draft.

We’re just beyond the half way point. We’ve seen a litany of rookies make their debut. Some we scarcely met before sending them back or in some cases even moving on for good.

It’s super weird that the Pirates aren’t playing today. They used to play double headers on the 4th, and this year for some reason they don’t play at all.

The Pirates had an opportunity to win every game this weekend in St. Pete, but the time for moral victories is just about over.

Is there something in particular you expect to see me touch on today? I mean I feel like there’s some huge story that I almost have to cover. Hmmm, I guess you’ll have to read and see if I hit on it.

Ugly moments like that, yup, gonna happen. There will be nice moments too, and while those tend to be easier to forget when the overall picture is gross, I still tend to enjoy them, as I’m sure most of you do.

It was never about identifying a few guys and claiming everything would change when they got here, instead it was about identifying that there were simply too many guys timing up that the team wouldn’t find at least a few who made it up here and started changing everything.

The Pirates are out on a West Coast trip and sometimes that means things slip through the cracks, other times, it means fans have nothing but the “news” to pay attention to and that creates a narrative all it’s own.

As we sit here on the day after a historic victory while being no hit, and take a quick look at the Pirates record of 15-19, it’s probably fair to say, nobody has predicted everything they’d see with any real accuracy.
