Today is a big long look at what’s coming. Not the end of the season, but how this whole thing will progress.

Baseball and 9-11 will always be intertwined. The sports world played a huge role in helping to heal the nation and I’ll never shake the images of our President throwing out the first pitch.

Sorry it’s late, but life always wins, and this time, there was just no avoiding it.

I’m going to say a ton today, so I’m not going to spend much time up here. Let’s get into it.

Here we are, just about 6 weeks from the end of the 2023 campaign. There are 38 games remaining and to finish with a better record than last year they’d have to go 6-32, and since last year they finished 62-100, it of course also means they need those 6 wins to avoid a 100 loss season.

Young guys are very clearly the theme the rest of the way this year. That doesn’t mean we don’t care about Hayes having a hot stretch or Reynolds getting on track, it just means those two extended players, well, it should be expected they’d play like good players.

This team, and this owner don’t help themselves as much as they could or should, I don’t absolve them of that, but in a league like this, there are certain realities, this is one of them. Doesn’t mean you can’t win, it just means it’s a hell of a lot harder.

The rest of this year needs to be geared toward that, so at the deadline the Pirates have some choices to make. Do they hold on to guys like Choi, Santana for their sheer competence, or do they clear the space to start getting more at bats for some of the members of that list?

A lot of blue up there. A lot. But it’s the fist week after the break so let’s not lose our cool here. I won’t get weighted down in those numbers. Instead….
