The rest of this year needs to be geared toward that, so at the deadline the Pirates have some choices to make. Do they hold on to guys like Choi, Santana for their sheer competence, or do they clear the space to start getting more at bats for some of the members of that list?

The Pirates have played poor baseball. They’ve been injured, they’ve underperformed, they’ve even just flat out kicked a baseball right at the wrong time.

One thing they haven’t done is completely bungle a rebuild.

Not yet.

Even as the Pirates and every other team in the league for that matter, are selecting players they hope one day might represent their organizations in the All Star Game one day, every team is also suiting up their representatives and shipping them off to Seattle for this year’s festivities.

We’re halfway through the 2023 season, it’s the day before Independence Day and it also happens to be time for the weekly 5 Pirates Thoughts at 5 here on IT double B

My guess is, you don’t need me to tell you this team is in trouble as they sit here having lost 12 of 13 contests, 9 of which were in the division.
Today, we’re going to spend time talking about how they got here, what they can do to turn things around and more than anything, is it too late even if they do them?

You hear prospects every year talk about making the show this season. Every year guys talk about what they need to work on, and how much they can’t wait to get here and help.

Ahh baseball. Lose 2 of 3 to a team you’re supposed to beat the hell out of, win 2 of 3 against a team outspending you 5 to 1 right?
