On the Eve of a New Pirates Season Beginning…

I’m not ready to make predictions yet, in fact, I don’t even think they’ve finished forming the roster, I’ll let Spring play out before I go there like every year but I have a few thoughts I wanted to get out there before we get this thing started.

Pirates Sign Yasmani Grandal for 2.5 Million

In keeping with the cherished tradition of the Ben Cherington era, the Pirates signed what at the very least is a notable name during a time when most of the country is busy doing anything but caring about what the Pirates do

I’m Not Upset Gary Sanchez Signed Elsewhere, Hear Me Out

This Gary Sanchez situation in miniature really showed me how far apart I am from a lot of fans. I mean some people were straight heated about what I saw at least as a weird fit.

Compete for the Division in 2024? Maybe, but I Don’t Think I’ll be Predicting it.

We all know the team claims they’ll get more pitching. I’m not even calling them liars, or assuming they’ll fail to get one, but I started thinking, even if they do, could I really believe they’d compete for a division?

Development is Non-Linear, but for the Pirates, it’s Been Almost Non-Existent

The Pirates have curated a fan base that has lowered their expectations down to expecting at least some effort. From players who probably aren’t good enough, from coaches who probably don’t have all the right buttons to push, even if they knew what they’d be.

This year, I’ve decided to dig even deeper into the current options for the 26-man, 40-man and depth beyond. There’s a congestion that has emerged among our outfield options with some internal options – asContinue reading “Outfield Breakdown: 2024 Edition”

Eighth Inning Rally Gives Pirates Victory in Final Game of 2023 (76-86)

10/1/23- By Michael Castrignano – @412DoublePlay on Twitter Last game of the season and both teams were ready for the season to be over – though, arguably, for different reasons as the Bucs head into an October spent on the couch while the Marlins look forward to just the franchise’s fourth postseason appearance. Andre JacksonContinue reading “Eighth Inning Rally Gives Pirates Victory in Final Game of 2023 (76-86)”
