As I said at the beginning, every team in baseball will face questions just like these, but the Pirates can afford less mistakes than many teams and how they answer these questions and prepare for uncertainty will be key moving forward.

Bringing Out the Worst In People
We as baseball bloggers, podcasters, writers, insiders, personalities, etc. are all in the same boat; attempting to do our jobs without the sport we cover actually being played. This was fine for the few months in between the Washington Nationals World Series Championship and the beginning of Spring Training because we all knew it wouldContinue reading “Bringing Out the Worst In People”
Fruits of My Passion: The 2005 Pittsburgh Pirates
Think back to a time in your life when you were just young enough to still not have a care in the world, but had enough money burning a hole in your pocket that you could spend it on some unnecessary things. For me the year was 2005 and for my friends and I thatContinue reading “Fruits of My Passion: The 2005 Pittsburgh Pirates”
Friday Focus – Second Guessing the Pirates’ Draft History is More Than Just Swapping Picks
Another that’s fairly high on the list, Pirates fans love second guessing this club. They question everything from how players are instructed, the contracts they’re given, trades that were made and even draft picks.
Through The Prospect Port Hole: Sergio Campana
Last week I took a trip to the Dominican Summer League and found a freak of nature, Shendrik Apostel. This young man sets himself apart from others by his size and power. How many of you have ever been in a fight with someone? I am not limiting the answer to this to a question strictly about physical altercations. This isn’t the same thing as have you ever taken a punch? It could have been argument with a friend, teacher, co-worker, loved one or even stranger. IContinue reading “The Battle To “Save” Baseball”
Watching It Grow: The 1997 Pittsburgh Pirates
“The Freak Show” as they affectionately came to be known thanks to Pirates long time announcer, Greg Brown, have been the inspiration for a few segments on AT&T Sports Net (as well as the past incarnations of the same network), promotions at PNC Park and multiple articles over the past 20 plus years. Our ownContinue reading “Watching It Grow: The 1997 Pittsburgh Pirates”
Through The Prospect Port Hole: Shendrik Apostel
Merriam-Webster’s defines a freak of nature as a person or thing that is very unusual or abnormal. In many situations this could potentially be seen as a negative, except when it comes to sports. In the sports world a freak of nature or athletic freak has attention showered on them, is celebrated at times andContinue reading “Through The Prospect Port Hole: Shendrik Apostel”
Baseball is Shut Down, But Some Are Still Playing Games
I actually saw the comments under one of these serious columns about fake baseball excoriating Bob Nutting for his virtual payroll. Hey, Nutting bashing IS baseball for some.
